Booster Gold Live
DC announced via press release and blog yesterday that Batman and Robin will be starring in a live action theater production touring the United Kingdom later this summer. Hopefully the difficulties faced by Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark aren't any indication of Batman Live's future. The real question here, however, is why hasn't Booster Gold ever tried this?
Booster has licensed cars, toys, and cereals. He's endorsed sunscreen, toothpaste, and colas. He negotiated with agents for years for Booster Gold: The Movie. Why hasn't Booster put together a touring live-action stageshow featuring Booster Gold (or at least an actor doing a reasonable impression)?
Stage shows have a few significant advantages over movies. They require less capital investment and are considered successes when they achieve a moderate income. It's hard to imagine that snobby theater critics would be kind to a play about noble Michael Carter, but who cares what the critics say, anyway? I'd certainly go see Booster Gold Live.
Details about Batman Live -- what few there currently are -- can be found at the appropriately named batmanlive.com.
